Commercial and Retail

Ironstone Bank

Bank buildings look like ordinary commercial construction until you read the specifications for the secure areas.

About the project

A branch banking facility carries a conventional commercial steel scope in most of the building, including structural framing, roof support, canopies and miscellaneous metals. What sets it apart is the security related construction and the equipment support that comes with it.

Vault and secure area framing, equipment support for teller and drive through systems, canopy structures over drive lanes and reinforced openings all involve steel detailing that is more particular than standard retail work, and more closely inspected.

Branch construction also tends to run on a tight schedule with a hard opening date, since the operation of the branch is the point of the project.

Conditions that shaped the work

  • Security related detailing requiring careful coordination
  • Equipment support tolerances for banking systems
  • Fixed opening date for branch operations
  • Canopy structures exposed to weather and public view
